The England manager Questions Wembley Crowd Support Following Comfortable Win Over Wales.
Thomas Tuchel voiced his sadness that the England team did not enjoy stronger backing from the Wembley fans during their commanding triumph over Wales on Thursday evening.
Tuchel was pleased to see his side maintain their winning momentum, with goals from Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the first 20 minutes settling the match. Yet, he was not content with the energy at the iconic venue.
“We had one and a half sessions to prepare against a organized team and we did very well,” Tuchel stated. “We could have been 5-0 up at half-time. We couldn’t score the additional ones. The stadium was silent. There was no any energy from the stands. We did everything to win.”
“What more can you give in 20 minutes? We didn’t let them get away. If you hear just the Welsh supporters for 30 minutes, it’s sad because the team warranted more support today.”
“I stand by my words. We cannot do more than leading three goals up in a rivalry match. I hoped for a little more support in moments where it is challenging.”
“After halftime, to cheer us on, there was a bit too much support for Wales. It might have aided us to regain energy, but it is what it is and so be it.”
Squad Decisions Vindicated by Display
Away from potentially starting a fight with supporters, the manager also raised eyebrows by excluding Jude Bellingham and Foden from his squad. Yet the decision was validated by Morgan Rogers delivering another standout performance in the attacking midfield role and scoring his maiden goal for his country.
“He is what he is,” the head coach explained. “He is a No 10 and he is fighting for his spot.”
Wales Manager Hopes for Improvement from Defeat
Craig Bellamy hopes that his team, who host a strong Belgian side in a crucial qualifying match on next week, take lessons from their awful first-half display.
“This is why I scheduled this friendly,” the manager said. “I wanted to assess where we are. What are our ambitions? What is our identity? This performance fills me with drive.”
Injury Concern for Striker
Watkins was withdrawn at the break after colliding with a goalpost and will be a doubt when the national team play Latvia in the Latvian capital in a World Cup qualifying match on next week.
