The King has been a key figure at previous climate summits, providing the introductory remarks in the United Arab Emirates for the 28th Conference of Parties, including the observation: "We are custodians of the planet, not its owners".

"I have spent a substantial portion of my life trying to raise awareness about the critical dangers confronting humanity over climate change, climate change and biodiversity loss," the monarch informed participants.
