Hungarian Author Krasznahorkai László Awarded Nobel Prize in Literature
Krasznahorkai was awarded the prestigious Nobel in Literary Arts.
The Hungarian writer was honored "for his compelling and forward-thinking collection that, in the midst of cataclysmic dread, reaffirms the power of art."
He has authored 5 works of fiction and garnered countless further literary honors, for instance the 2015 Booker International, and the 2013 finest translated novel prize in Fiction for his first book Satantango, a contemporary creation concerning the end of the globe.
The writer is the 2nd Magyar novelist to pick up the honor following the late Imre Kertesz, who won in 2002.
Originating in 1954, Krasznahorkai earned fame in 1985 when he released Satantango, which he adapted for the big screen in 1994.
This b&w movie, by Hungarian film-maker Tarr Bela, is notable for its 7-hour duration.

The author's 2021 novel "Herscht 07769" has been called as a significant contemporary German story, because of its accuracy in depicting the land's social turmoil right before the pandemic.
It's a representation of a current hamlet in Thuringia, Deutschland, afflicted by societal chaos, homicide and fire-setting.

Krasznahorkai's newest ironic book, Zsömle Odavan, returns to Magyarország.
The lead is ninety-one-year-old Uncle Józsi Kada, who has a confidential claim to the royal seat but has gone to great lengths to disappear from the planet.
