Diving into an Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and enthusiasts have found plenty of interesting independent titles. Yet, one catches the eye for its offbeat concept. Named Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game features a hero that is truly a piece of poop attempting to travel to a toilet. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."

Player controls is straightforward: you only need a single jump button. Throughout 150 stages, you'll face mini-bosses and access a market to buy customizations for your fecal avatar.

Execute your movements precisely, as a mistake requires starting over. Leap on bubbles to hurl your character to new heights, traverse crumbling surfaces, and touch buttons to open secret routes. Gather UN-KOINS and use them on more difficult stages in which gameplay ramps up.

Graphically, the experience boasts neon level designs and a killer music score. The simple graphics featuring shifting abstract forms evokes memories of gamers of beloved games like Earthbound.

Although difficult to think of other games where you play as a coiled turd, video games have long featured fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, players craft grenades from character excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as plant food. Naturally, such content is present extensively in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its silly idea, Unko Technica has already garnered notable recognition, like being named best at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. The demo is ready at present on Steam, with the complete version planned to arrive on PC this November.
